Thirty years ago, Dmitrij Kitajenko conducted the Gürzenich orchestra Cologne for the first time. Over 65 concerts, numerous opera performances and 29 CDs have come out from this fruitful relation.

Maestro Kitajenko, who is since 2009 Conductor Laureate of the Gürzenich, gladly remembers those years: « A deep mutual respect and musical and human trust mark our co-operation. Not only has the orchestra grown so close to my heart, but also the Cologne audience, which creates a quite special atmosphere in our concerts. »

At the end of the concert, the musicians's President Georg Heimbach thanked Maestro Kitajenko for the long-term collaboration

On October 9, 10 and 11 Maestro Kitajenko is conducting Sergei Prokofiev’s 7th Symphony, Shostakovich’s Concerto for trumpet, piano and string orchestra with the pianist Yeol Eum Son, and Simon De Klein,  the solo trumpeter of the Gürzenich orchestra, and, finally, his own suite from Khachaturian’s ballet Spartacus.
