Austrian mezzo-soprano Anja Mittermüller, recently named Young Artist of the Year by the International Classical Music Awards, won the SWR’s Emmerich Smola Prize in Landau on January 17, together with Oleh Lebedyev. The Emmerich Smola Orchestra Award from the German Radio Philharmonic also went to Anja Mittermüller.

The Transylvania State Philharmonic in Cluj, host of the ICMA Gala 2027, announced the appointment of Gregory Vajda as Principal Conductor, marking an important artistic milestone for one of Romania’s leading musical and cultural institutions and reaffirming its commitment to international excellence.

The International Classical Music Awards ICMA today announced the nominations for their Awards 2026, celebrating the best musicians and recordings. The nominations include many renowned soloists, ensembles, conductors and orchestras as well as a lot of young musicians, many of them being first-nominees.
