Cancellation of the Award Ceremony and Gala Concert 2020

Due to the international situation of the coronavirus, the Board of the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville and the Board of ICMA International Classical Music Awards have decided to cancel the Award Ceremony and the Gala Concert in Seville, on 30 April 2020. Both institutions are looking into the possibility of finding another date in the fall.

Since some years, the ICMA Jury invites young musicians to the Award Ceremonies, where they can perform for a select audience with winners, industry representatives, Jury members and guests. This year two musicians will enrich the ceremony, Spanish guitarist Pedro Rojas-Ogayar as well as Greek flutist Stathis Karapanos. At this year’s VP Bank Classic Festival in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland, ICMA President Remy Franck presented the 16-year-old German cellist Philipp Schupelius, the winner of the ICMA Discovery Award 2020. In a chamber music concert at the Kursaal of Bad Ragaz Grand Resort, Philipp amazed the audience with a transcription of Schubert’s Erlkönig by Bernhard Cossmann. Together with pianist Polina Sasko he gave a very stylish performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Variations of ‘Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen’ from Mozarts Magic Flute. Finally, he played Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Trio op. 1/3 together with pianist Arsen Dalibaltayan and violinist Clara Shen.

ICMA celebrate 10 years of discovering musical excellence, unveil 10-year logo

The International Classical Music Awards are celebrating this year their 10th anniversary. ICMA was created in 2010 as the successor of the MIDEM Classical Awards, formerly Cannes Classical Awards. The Award ceremony and Gala Concert scheduled for the 30th of April 2020 in Seville and hosted by the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville will be the tenth in a row. Read More →

The Jury of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) today announced the Awards for 2020 which mark the tenth anniversary of this prestigious musical recognition. Austrian-Russian pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja is honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Latvian soprano Marina Rebeka is Artist of the Year, Italian cellist Erica Piccotti is Young Artist of the Year. The Discovery Award is awarded to 16-year-old German cellist Philipp Schupelius.
