The Jury of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) announced today the Awards for 2019. Brazilian pianist Nelson Freire is honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Spanish pianist Javier Perianes is Artist of the Year, Croatian bassoonist Matko Smolcic is Young Artist of the Year. The Discovery Award is awarded to 14-year-old Russian pianist Eva Gevorgyan. Manfred Honeck extends Pittsburgh contract

Austrian conductor Manfred Honeck, ICMA Artist of the Year 2018, has extended his contract as Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphon for two years, to run through the 2021-22 season, when the orchestra will celebrate its 125th, birthday as well as the 50th anniversary of the opening of Heinz Hall. Honeck became music director in 2008.

ICMA winners boost their career

Jodie Devos, ICMA Young Artist of the Year 2015, made her US debut during the Mostly Mozart Festival at New York’s Lincoln Center. She sang the soprano part in Mozart’s Requiem, conducted by Louis Langrée. In October, Warner Classics will release the debut album of another ICMA winner: soprano Elsa Dreisig’s CD Miroirs. Elsa Dreisig was ICMA’s Young Artist of the Year 2017.
